Rainy Lemons

Acrylic on canvas - 24 x 12 in - 2014

Plants are fantastic “sitters” for paintings: they’re full of life and always changing, but not always moving! And they don’t charge sitting fees :)

On a rare rainy day in Santa Fe, inspired by the cooler colors and the water, I tried a new approach to painting my lemon tree. I used streaks of acrylic paint in different colors, subtle texture, and cool shades to evoke an Asian flair. I like the result, even though the unripe lemons make some think of limes.
